I have this machine. Its great! Perfect for first timers and experienced sewers alike. I got one because my singer confidence couldnt handle sewing diapers. This machine went thru the layers like a knife thru butter. Smooth seams and great stitching everytime. Oh and so quiet! I hardly hear it, I swear. I have to say I was a Singer gal, but I am now a Husqvarna convert. Buying a serger next!

I am glad I read this review, it did help me decide to buy the Emerald 116. I test drove twice on different days at our local dealer & really liked the way it sewed even through layers of denim as I do lots of mending at our house, plus they had layers for quilting & it easily sewed through those too. Having had a computerized machine before & being very frustrated with the experience...I very much look forward to when I get this sewing girl out of layaway & set her up to sew. Thank you for writing such a great review.

Your review made me finally decide to get it. Reading nice reviews on a Brother machine I was also looking at made me sway with an answer. I did hesitate before purchasing, but my husband told me that he would rather me have a more expensive, solid machine, than a cheaper one that would break down in just a few years.

I'd been using a 70's Singer that was very frustrating and would only work when she wanted to. This Viking is so wonderful. I like how it doesn't bunch up the thread underneath, and the clear cover plate shows you if the bottom will bunch, and remind and new sewer to raise the needle before removing the fabric!

Thank you!!

THanks for your awesome review. Super informative and really well written. I bought this machine about 6 months ago, put a lot of time on it and I've also written a review for my blog.
I purchased the 118 recently as a backup and quilt-piecing machine. I love it and echo the comments above. And I would agree, my only complaint is related to the angle/position of the thread cutter. I have pieced three lap/baby quilts on it that went very well. It uses all the HV feet I have for my Rose, so I think it is a great addition to my sewing room since my 30-year-old, plastic-geared Singer gave up the ghost! Happy sewing!

I am getting this machine for my birthday! I am so excited! I test drove it in Joann's after my machine broke. I have been drooling over it ever since! I sew daily and have been using really cheap quality machines thus far and I am really excited to be getting a nice high quality machine~
